The Greensborough Hotel
OVERVIEW
The Greensborough Hotel, has been a favourite watering hole for locals since the 1860s. But it was time for a fresh new look; something that incorporated warm natural finishes and lighting, comfortable furnishing and finishes to make the guests feel as though they were home. It’s been a long-held family-owned hotel and the owners wanted to maintain a relaxed, warm, welcoming atmosphere.
The hotel turned to the Ryun E Johnston Interior design. Ryun Johnson has a wealth of experience in the construction and refurb of Melbourne city and country hotels. An expert in interior design, construction and project management, this was a job I thoroughly enjoyed
STANDOUT FEATURES
The new timber and stone 14m bar is designed to service all points of the bistro, including the new alfresco dining area. Glass operable windows were installed to take full advantage of the lovely bush views. The operable roof system ensured patrons could enjoy the alfresco area in the summer and winter — the first drop of rain will trigger the sensor and close the roof. The bistro and alfresco area is divided by glass bi-fold doors that run the full length of the bistro and can be easily folded back or closed for a private function.
A fire place and ‘nook’ were installed to create a focal point of warmth and privacy for those who would like to enjoy a quiet drink, conversation and meal.
The public bar, gaming room and Francis room were all recarpeted with custom-made Axminster carpets, in rich blues, greys and crème tones, with a timber accent border that was also used in the foyer and passageways. Comfortable tub chairs, long leather couches, and movable custom banquettes carry on the sense of warmth and comfort. The outdoor furniture, is strong, comfortable and conveys a feeling of ‘sit down, relax, enjoy yourself’.
Deck 75, was reconfigured for live music performances, while patrons are protected by a large vaulted awning. Extensive landscaping and furnishings makes the Deck a desirable place to spend a relaxed afternoon.
The exterior works of the hotel, which were essential to act as an advertisement for the improvements inside, include a new exterior paint scheme, signage and lighting — giving the overall impression that an old building has been revived and has a new lease on life.
The clients were thrilled with the result, achieving a new look for the established hotel, resulted in increased patrons and sales and that Ryun E Johnston, was able to stick to budget, timing and offer a level of personalised project management where Ryun Johnston was on site every day to oversee and vet any questions the builders and subcontractors had, allowing the owners and management to carry on their duties of running a busy hotel.
